 UNICEF Hygiene Promotion in Emergencies: A Briefing Paper

 This briefing paper is aimed at all those involved in facilitating hygiene improvement in an acute emergency context, especially WASH coordinators and programme managers. It aims to provide an overview of the focus and content of Hygiene Promotion interventions and why they must be integrated with hardware provision.

 OXFAM Minimum Requirements for WASH Programmes (2013)

 This paper is Oxfam's essential guide for WASH staff and partners. It describes the processes and standards that Oxfam WASH programmes should follow if they are to be carried out effectively, consistently and in a way which treats affected communities with respect.

 WHO Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion Programming Guidance (2005)

 This document is about setting in place a process whereby people (women, children and men) effect and sustain a hygienic and healthy environment for themselves. It talks about developing a programme for more effective investment in sanitation and hygiene promotion.

Marcy Corps Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Guidelines (2008-2009) 

 These guidelines act to provide context, a toolbox and a how-to manual for Mercy Corps program managers looking to implement water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects or programs, regardless of previous experience.

 The WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme for Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (JMP)

 The JMP is jointly managed by WHO and UNICEF, and collaborates with partners at the country, regional and global levels.  The JMP monitors WASH at the household level and also in schools and health care facilities. JMP reports focus on inequalities in service levels between rural and urban, sub-national regions, rich and poor and other population sub-groups where data permit.

 Global WASH Cluster

 The aim of the cluster approach is to strengthen system-wide preparedness and technical capacity. The GWC’s vision is that increased coordination and response quality and capacity of national WASH coordination platforms will result in the improved relevance, quality, coverage and effectiveness of WASH assistance provided to people affected by emergencies.
